UBC’s Faculty of Medicine facilitates and encourages innovative research that advances knowledge and translates new discoveries to improve health and well-being. Faculty members are world leaders, pioneers and internationally recognized authorities in HIV/AIDs treatment, genomics and infectious diseases. Past and present faculty members have received prestigious national and international awards, including the Nobel Prize and the Order of Canada.
UBC currently ranks 19th in the world in the life sciences according to The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (39th according to The Academic Ranking of World Universities compiled by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University), and third in the world for research of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Research strengths and facilities include excellence in both discovery and translational research in five major priority areas: brain health, heart and lung health, healthy lifecycle, cancer control and prevention, and infection and immunity.
