The International Partnership for Forestry Education (IPFE) is a voluntary mechanism for coordinating international efforts to advance forestry education. IPFE was created as a global network of institutions concerned with forestry education. The partnership provides an accessible platform to discuss global challenges facing the forest sector, explore strategies for strengthening forestry education, share experiences on curriculum development, explore mechanisms for knowledge sharing and represent the interests of forestry education at international forums.
The partnership has nearly 40 members comprising universities, international research centres, inter-governmental organizations, international NGOs, regional research and education networks and the International Forestry Students Association (IFSA). IPFE’s secretariat is currently shared between the UBC and the University of Joensuu, Finland. The partnership is governed by an elected Executive Office supported by a Steering Committee and an Advisory Board.
Recent activities undertaken by IPFE have included supporting the establishment of regional forestry education networks in Africa, Latin America and Asia and participation in their meetings, co-organizing the Canada/China International Symposium on Forestry Education and the first Training Forum on Forestry Education in China, as well as the session on forestry education at the 13th World Forestry Congress in Argentina. IPFE co-organized the Second International Symposium on Forestry Education in Vancouver in May 2010.
